Tonight I am very unhappy. First I have to depart for home now that my visit with Laila is over. That was hard in itself, but then I got to deal with one of the most incompetent outfits I have had to deal with. What you may ask is that? It Is Philippines Airlines. I understand that airport security is always heightened at airports since the 9/11 attacks. I also understand the need for extra security. What I am not ready for is a staff that is totally incompetent. Laila and I left her house a little early to make sure we would get to the airport at least 3 hours before hand like they called for. I got to the airport prior to 5PM and got in line to get my boarding pass. I was the sixth person in line and I noticed it was right after 5 PM so I took a mental note of who was close to me in line. I even helped an older Filipino man understand what a few things on his passport meant. I noticed that at the front of the line there was a lady in pink and a man in white and they seemed to have some problems with the guy manning the counter. A few of us in line started discussing the fact that our line was not moving while the other one moved quite quickly. At about 5:45 PM they started opening up other windows to serve our flight, and took the passengers from the rear of the line. We were still waiting for the man in white and the lady in pink. Finally they changed ticket agent and after several trips to her supervisor the man in white and lady in pink were served and moved on at 6:10 PM. I finally got through the line at 6:30 PM. One and a half hours for a boarding pass when I am the 6th person in line is inexcusable. If these people had problems with their ticket, or they had other problems they should have been passed off to a supervisor or something. Also when opening other lines for service you should take the next person in the longer lines first. As someone who has completed many QA and QC classes as part of my industrial technology studies I was definitely appalled by the customer service, or lack of service demonstrated by these so called professionals and I fill find it hard to book a flight with them again. I will check the availability of alternatives before I do this one again. The whole experience left me with a sour feeling. Anyway after that I had to pay my $5.50 Peso airport tax, something that I don't have to deal with in the states, and then immigration and three more security checks before I got to sit down at my gate. I did call Laila before I entered the gate, and she was kind of amused by the fact that I had so many hassles. I also had some clown try and sell me a phone card but I had coins, so that did not go over very big. He sold it to some woman who then tried to use it and it didn't work. I bought a phone card the last time I flew out of the Philippines and it didn't work even though I bought it out of a machine. They had a trouble call number on the back and when I called it the recording told me they were closed for the holidays and so I gave the number from the card to Laila so her mother could use it. All in all I guess I learned from that one. Anyway, they are calling for us to board so it is about time for me to wrap this one up. I told Laila I was going to blog while waiting to board. They just called my row, but rather than be a sheep and wait forever in line I will wait for the line to get smaller before boarding. It is moving pretty fast so I guess I will board now. I will post this in San Diego when I get home. Well I am now on the plane. Due to the fine wait I had in the ticketing line I was not able to get my normal window seat. In fact I am in an isle row 1 row up from the back. Awesome, at least by the time I get off the plane my luggage should be ready for pickup. We too off 35 minutes late as bout 24 folks decided they didn't have to follow the rules concerning showing p 3 hours early for the flight. So rather than leave and have everyone make it to LA on time we left late and the handy little board that gives us our flight status says we will be about 15 minutes or so late. Not bad, unless you are waiting for a connecting flight like me, and many of the other folks on board. I guess if the airline had to pay to put you up for the night should you miss your connecting flight they would leave on time. But since they could care less if you make your next flight or not, then who cares? The some of the folks that came on late were real jewels. This one guy brought a family, and first they found that someone had taken their seats. After the stewardesses got that on figured out, then he of course had to unpack all of his carry on luggage looking for stuff for his wife and kids. Now we are finally off the ground and he is still up and about. Anyway, sometimes I wonder why the carry on luggage rules pertains to some and not to others? It seems that way on this particular airlines. It would be interesting if the airline weighted the luggage as it came off the plane rather than prior to boarding. Just think of the overweight charges they could make. The same with these people that have forgot about the two checked pieces of luggage, size, and weight restrictions on checked items. Anyway, I guess that is me just being me as I am always critical when I follow the rules and others don't seem to have to or are not held accountable. Well so much for that, they are about to serve our delicious in flight meal. I don't know what they are offering, but I know it has a ton of garlic, as I have smelled it cook. Oh and that reminds me of something. Laila said her ex didn't like microwaves because microwave food causes cancer. He as firmly convinced of this. I don't know if he reads my blog of not but if so, hey Abdullah, airline food is heated in a microwave. Surprise, they do not have an oven, bakeshop, or a fancy kitchen on board a plane. Have a nice time eating on your next flight. Ok, I have made it to Los Angeles and I have actually made it through all of the checkpoints and am waiting at the gate for my flight to load. It should load in about 20 minutes. I was going to find one of those Neptune things by then why bother. I will be home soon enough and can get Laila on the Internet provided my son has not done any strange things to my pc and all. In a way it will be good to be back home and in a way I will miss being with my woman. But then I have to be able to pay the bills so I guess I had better go to work tomorrow. Besides too much time off will get me lazy and I can't afford to have that happen. Anyway something strange happened when I came through the security checkpoint here. They took my laptop and did some test on it to see if it was a laptop or a bomb. Neat the way they checked it after I landed on a flight from the Philippines. These homeland security folks are all over things and really have me feeling very secure and comfortable. Figures they would check someone getting onto a plane at an original destination, but not these guys. Oh the flight from Manila to Los Angeles, besides being long was ok. The food was acceptable, and I drank plenty of water. I was sitting next to a guy from Mississippi who had met his girlfriend on the Internet also. We talked for a while and we were both worried about making it to our connecting flights on time. I made it and, I hope he did. The flight was a little bumpy and bouncy as the weather was pretty choppy from Japan until we got almost to the coast of California. Now I have the little puddle jumper to catch to San Diego and then a cab home, and I will be back in my familiar surroundings. I have to check my car and make sure it still works and then I will get online and talk to my honey. I was going to blog about annoying people on planes, but it is about time to board the plane so I will wrap this up, put it on the memory stick and upload it to my pc when I get home.

Well it is now Sunday and we have gone to church and then to breakfast. Now I have pretty much finished packing everything and we are just waiting for the rest of the laundry to get done before I have to get ready for the airport. That reminds me I still have to make taco's for lunch before going to the airport. I hope I am not going to spend half my life waiting around the place. I hate having to show up three hours early for a 15 minute security wait. And then of course I have the mess to go through when I get to LAX and all when I try and get to San Diego. I want to get home early enough to get on line, before having to go to bed since I do have to work tomorrow. Also I now I will still be a little excited when I first get home so I will not sleep right away. I guess we will see what happens.

Well
I found out why my tooth was hurting. I cracked a filling.
I was feeling so bad this afternoon and Laila insisted that I should go
see a dentist instead of buying painkiller or antibiotic. Dr.
Rosette was the main dentist assisted by Dr. Sandra and Dr.
Noemi. They removed the old metal filling, drilled it out and
then they refilled the tooth.
We went to her old dentist's place called Queen Mary Polyclinic in
Pasig City, Suite 2503 Medical Plaza-Ortegas, San Miguel Ave, Pasig
City, where they took me right in and found that I had cracked a
filling and exposed the root of the tooth. It feels better
now, but it still hurts as the novicaine wears off. We went to
dinner at some place called Max's at the SM North Mall. I did
have a scary idea about SM and the fact that almost all their big malls
here are SM. We have Walmart named after Sam Walton, and Sam's
Club named after Sam Walton. SM sounds kind of very suspicious to
me as all you have to do is ad an a to SM and you have SaM.
Me and Laila with her mother and kids.
Anyway, Max's was packed. As a result, service was slow, they
screwed up the order, and the food, when we finally got it was
tasteless and cold. Then on top of that we had to pay a 245 Peso
VAT tax. Laila was pissed that on top of crappy service we got to
pay Gloria's tax and she of course let them know. Oh well, that
is life here in the Philippines. Now we are trying to
get caught up on blogging even though she will probably be playing
Black Pawkeet or Moon Rock soon. I'll try and blog tomorrow
before I leave. See you then.

My last full day in Manila this trip
I
figured since the family is doing the daily moose calling competition
(karaoke) I would go ahead and blog. The tooth is still hurting
and I haven't really found anything that helps. Laila was going
to send someone to get antibiotics for it since they are over the
counter drugs here. If it keeps hurting I may take her up on it.
In the meantime I will put some more aspirin on it and see if it helps
a bit. I sure wish I knew what was causing it. It hurts so
bad now that both my ear and the side of my face hurts. I was
fine when I got up but aggravated it eating breakfast. Oh well,
that's life. Anyway, today is my last full day here and it is
really hot. I have already taken a shower and now am all sweaty
again. I think sometimes I could stay in the shower all day here
and still sweat. We don't really have much to do here but
get my clothes washed and ready to pack for tomorrow. The plane
leaves at 8:30 but I have to be at the airport at 5:30 and then hang
out for 3 hours before I finally board the plane for Los Angeles.
Then I have to hope I can get through everything quickly on the Los
Angeles side so I get to San Diego early enough to get unpacked and
ready for work on Monday. I will also finally be able to get
caught up on some stuff I would like to blog about. Things like
why is Neil Young, a has been musician from the 60's and 70's, from
Canada by the way, calling for the impeachment of the President of the
United States. Mr. Young, look at your own Government before
criticizing mine, after all did you not get your fame in the United
States? Oh I forgot, free enterprise is great as long as it
pretains to you, socialism is good for the rest of the
population. Besides, the family moose calling competition sounds
better than your singing Mr. Young. Lynyrd Skynyrd had it right,
but they should change is from Southern Man to American Man.
I am also anxious to get home and see the May 1st boycott of the United
States by the Mexican Illegal Aliens. I sure hope the National
Guard, Border Patrol and INS are out there with lots of transportation
to move them to a more favorable protest site, like Mexico.
Anyway I guess that's about it for now. I will try and blog again
tomorrow before I leave. If not my next entry will be from home
in San Diego.

Ooops, I looked at the news.
We
just returned from shopping and the whole way there and while I was
there I was getting angrier and angrier at some things I saw just
before we left. Prior to leaving I saw this on the Drudge Report and I am very angry. After I saw that little piece on Drudge I went over to Michelle Malkin's blog and saw more that angered me.
Seems to me that the President of the United States wants to sell out
the country to the illegals. He took an oath to protect and
defend the United States from all enemies foreign and domestic.
We now have foreign criminals causing domestic problems because we can
not protect our borders.
I am especially hot because of the offer of any type of amnesty or
citizenship to these law breakers. I am currently engaged to a
Filipina National who has three children all over the age of 18.
Because of their age it will take me 5 to 7 years before they can
migrate to the US on something other than a tourist visa that lasts
only six months.
Should they marry another person from thier own country then that
waiting time goes up to 12 and possibly 15 years. Why is this you
might ask? The United States can only afford to allow so many
people into the country each year and you can't tell me that illegal
immigration is not cutting into the numbers of legal people we will
admit.
Besides, who has given the Mexican's claim to the jobs American's don't
want to do. I know some Filipino's, Chinese, Korean's,
Malaysian's, Indonesian's, Thai's and many others that would jump at
the chance to pick criops and work in our fast food restaurants.
I can not believe that the Presidenty of the United States would see to
call patriotic American's that want to love and protect this country of
ours from criminals as being insensative. This is crap and the
President knows it. Stop kowtowing to Vincente Fox and do what
the people elected you to do. NO AMNESTY FOR LAW BREAKERS.
There are many people throughout the world trying to do it the honest
and lawful way. Lets give them a chance and make room for them by
getting rid of the law breakers.
If the President of the United States approves any amnesty program what
so ever for illegal immigrants than I will support impeachment. I
am sure I am not the only conservative that feels that way, in fact I
know I am not the only one, and a few of them are Hispanic by the way.
The time has come to take our country back and it starts with what is
going on in Congress right now. Besides the war on terrorism,
illegal immigration is the single biggest issue on the minds of th
American people. Everyone now knows someone who has been involved
in identity theft now, by some illegal using thier Social Security
Number. I know several people here in San Diego who have had
thier cars hit by unlicensed, unregistered automobiles driven by
illegal aliens.
That is when the cars are not stolen by illegal aliens. The
medical system and the schools are broken as is the welfare
program. We also get to sleep well at night knowing that thier
gangs are out there and we could be shot during one of their drive by
gang meetings.
Frankly I am ashamed of what is happening in Washington right
now. For 26 years I stood the watch as we call it.
Protecting the country from foreign agression. I am now
watching as people who are in our country illegally carry Mexican Flags
and talk down the country that has provided them the freedom to
protest. We just let them come in and have the run of the
place. What is terrible is our welfare checks are proabbly paying
them while they are out protesting us. They should be rounded up
and sent home. Give the people on the waiting lists who are
trying to come here legally a chance.
I have had it, the time has come for the folks we have put in office to
work for the people or it is time to elect new folks who will speak for
the people.

Well
today has been pretty much a laid back day. We pretty much
planned the whole day around 1 function and now that has ben cancelled
so it looks like we will have to make some different plans.
We were going to go out for dinner with Laila's lawyers, and I was
going to find out a little about the cases, but now they have cancelled
and won't be able to make it to the dinner. I guess
now we will go to the market and pick up some food items to cook here
at home. Her mother is visiting so I will probably be cooking
tonight. Anyway, while we were sitting around all day taking
it easy Laila and the kids were taking turns singing songs on the
Karaoke machine. I have kind avoided doing that as I don't sing
as good as I used too. I was always brave when in a Karaoke Bar when I was half in the bag, but I have always stayed away from it when sober.
I am always hearing the kids giving her a hard time when she sings and
the fact that she is often off key. Well, they are not much
better, and I think it would be cool to record them and play it back so
that they can hear what they sound like. After that Laila and
I did something we haven't done yet and that was to go through and read
some of the blogshares forum entries together. There seems
to be a whole lot of stuff going on. I would like to make a
public appology to all blogshares players, as I was the person that
granted Ronnie Yu (Pyro 7) a one month premium membership. I
though I was helping a deserving newbie, as Laila and I have done many
times in the past, but this time it seems I gave it to the wrong
person. I guess you just can't figure out some people.
Anyway we have had fun reading the entries and seeing what goes on,
though we have been pretty much absent from the forums for quite a
while now. I am glad to see some of my old freinds taking
higher positions in the game. Maybe after I get Laila to the
states and we get all settled in and all one of us will try and get
more involved with the internals of the game. Until then both of
us have a pretty full plate of things in real life. I have
been driving Laila nuts today, chasing her around the apartment with
the digital camera and snapping pictures at random. As is
with any woman no pictures taken of her will ever be good enough for
posting. I keep teasing her that I am going to post them all on
Flickr, but I haven't. I have taken quite a few though, but have
not downloaded them to my laptop yet. Other than that I
talked to my son via chat yesterday and everything at home is going
great. Today I paid another of my monthly bills online, and now
will get home just in time to pay next months bills. I did
try and revise my flight status today, but decided I will hold off a
little longer on it. I leave here via Philippines Air on Sunday
at 8:30 PM and get to Los Angeles at 6:30 PM. My flight
from L.A. to San Diego leaves at 7:30 so I didn't leave myself much in
the way of time to get from PAL to United Express. I was going to
try and change it via the United Express website, but they want $100 to
change it, where if I do it at the airport on the same day it will cost
$25 or will be free. I guess I will try back tomorrow or Saturday
and see what is up. I also have to arrange for Cloud Nine Shuttle
to the house but I have to know when I will get to San Diego
first. Oh well, a little excitement for the trip as I will try and make all the connections on time.
Well, it is almost time to go grocery shopping, so I have to get ready
to go. Again I will try and keep this up as much as possible and
will try and encourage Laila to update her blog. She is snacking
on Cheetos right now, while watching me update the blog. Now she
will have some excuse like cheese on her hands or something.
I guess Cheeto's are good for her leg injury or something. She
was told she needed more Calcium, cheese is made of milk and milk has
calcium, so Cheeto's must be good for that. Or they are just
fattening, but I don't think she wants to hear that. Anyway, off to change clothing. Later.
Posted at 09:42 pm by RWO
The last couple of days Laila and I have been hanging out at home making sure the progress on her leg continues to improve, so we have been watching some DVD's that I brought from home and taking it easy. She has still found a little time to sing Karaoke and play on Neopets though. Her favorite game besides the slots seems to be Moon Rock Rampage and she can get a really high score on it when she wants to. Today it is not a world challenge game so she is just trying to get her 1000 points. She has also been talking about updating her blog for the last two days now, but has still managed to ignore it. She has been getting quite a bit of spam in her comments section and she has been taking care of that part of her blog at least. I think she has managed to tick someone off, as they seem to be pretty persistent and good at what they are doing to spam her blog from legitimate sites. She has been fighting back by restricting more and more keywords and all, but then I think it may eventually keep anyone from posting any comments on her blog as she has so many banned words. As for me, I have been making a run on blogshares when I get the chance. When I started this trip I was is 28th place and even though I haven't been playing as much I am up to 24th place and moving up. I have learned a few tips from the expert and am playing a bit smarter. I will really start moving up when I get back home and have more time in front of a PC instead of sharing and doing other things instead of PC stuff like we have been doing lately. Other than that I guess it is great to get away from the news for a while. I am so tired of seeing the same stuff day after day in the press and it was nice to take a break from everything. I will of course get back to regular blogging when I get back home on Sunday. Being away from the news and home does make you wonder about things though. I have really been feeling sorry for this one Ice Cream vendor that goes up and down Laila's street all day. For one he is on a bicycle and is running I would say a 5-mile route, maybe a little longer, but the big thing that would drive me nuts is he has to listen o the same little song over and over all day. I am sure he hears it in his head when he goes home at night. I think that has to be a slow form or torture or something. I get sort of like that after going to Disneyland. I always wind up with "It's a small world" going off in my head and can't get it to go away. I guess that's it for today. I hope everyone has a great week.

Days passed by so quickly.
We got up early yesterday and showered, then went to church where
father Nelson Oroqueta, a Filipino Priest from Our Lady of Perpetual
Help Parish, said the mass. The mass was in Tagalog again but I
felt at home there since it is where Laila goes all the time for
worship. After church we went to McDonalds for breakfast, and
had their version of a big breakfast. It is sausage, scrambled
eggs, and a muffin (or rice) with coffee. We also got a side
order of pancakes. Anyway their brewed coffee tasted a little
funny. Later, I had diarrhea, but then that happens sometimes
when you eat overseas. We spent the afternoon doing some
chores around the house and then me, Laila and her children met Laila's
best friend, Vera, along with Sherwyn for ultimate buffet dinner at
Dad's. It took us four hours of chikka while eating until we
headed for home. This morning, we got up early as we had to
go to Sta. Teresita General Hospital to check Laila's knee injury
. Dr. Rimando Saguin sent us off to get knee x-ray right
after Laila filled out Patient's Information Sheet. After
examining the film, he then tested her for yellow fluid or blood in her
knee by inserting a long needle. The result was negative
(thanks, God!). Dr. Saguin's assistant told her to drink milk
everyday, and try to reduce some weight. He prescribed
anti-inflamatory pills to take the swelling down and she must return to
Dr. Saguin's clinic after 7 days, if pain doesn't go away.
Right now I have her laying in bed with her leg elevated to help with
the swelling while I am trying to catch upon news, e-mails, and making
sure Laila stays in bed with the leg up. Anyway, I
will try and blog when I can over the next few days, or I may just have
to blog when I get back home to San Diego. Sorry about the lack
of blogging but everything has been going so fast over here, except for
the travel from place to place. Traffic here is a nightmare. Until tomorrow, take care.

Today,
we took our BS sponsored child, Sarah, to SM Sucat for some grocery
items and a pair of sandals as the pair she was wearing were rented
from a friend for two pesos, about 4 cents American dollars.
We started out at 10 AM when Rose Marie and Fred, the driver, dropped
by at Laila's house to pick us up. Again the traffic was terrible
as MMDA was doing some road works along Epifanio delos Santos Avenue
(EDSA). I am starting to learn the names of some of the cities
around here. Anyway near the airport is Tramo, Parañaque City
where Sarah and her family live in a depressed area. We met
Sarah, Shiela, and their mother up at McDonalds and then took a short
drive over to the SM Sucat Mall. On the way, we were talking
about possible places to eat when Laila mentioned Chow King and we
found that the kids had not been there yet, so Chow King it was.
We parked the van in a basement and met Riel at Chow King. After
Laila had them remodel the place to accomodate our group (she is very
good at that), we sat down to a meal of Sweet and Sour Pork, Chicken,
Pancit Bihon, Rice and other stuff. The meal was great and the
kids really stuffed themselves as did everyone else.
After the meal we all went upstairs to the food section to buy food for
Sarah and her family. Laila, who is always really observant of
things caught Sarah's mother trying to add things to the list like milk
formula for her son's baby and things like that. We were there to
spend our money on Sarah and her needs other than the extended family.
We went ahead and filled up a shopping cart with grocery items and then
took them to Tramo where we put them on a tricycle for home. It
was great to see the smiles on Sarah and her sister's face as they
left, even though we have the feeling that their mother would probably
sell some of the food for cash. Sort of how the welfare folks in
the states do.
Anyway, we then headed back to Laila's house which again took quite a
while as the traffic again was miserable. She didn't know about
the traffic because she had slept through the trip back. I look
forward visiting Sarah and the Save the Children again on my next
visit. It was a very good feeling to be helping someone less
fortunate than ourselves and Laila and myself enjoyed it alot.

Sarah, our sponsored child
Today after many months of waiting, Laila and I finally met Sarah, our blogshares sponsored child, through Save the Children. We have been keeping in touch with Riel Andaluz
since I returned from my Christmas visit to Manila where we had applied
too late to visit with Sarah. Riel sent me all their forms and I
applied for a visit which was accepted. We received our itenerary
yesterday, and after getting up early this morning, eating breakfast
and then starting to get ready, Pearl told us that someone from Save
the Children was at the door. They were an hour early, and we
were not quite ready. Also Denise was asleep on the couch and we
didn't really want to have them come in and see that so, somehow Laila
excused us and asked if they could come back at 9 AM, as scheduled.
We went ahead and got ready and went downstairs at about 8:30 in case
they were waiting for us. They were not and then at 9 Laila
decided she wanted to wait upstairs. I told her to be patient and
wait but then we went ahead and started going upstairs. Just as
we got to the fourth floor they drove up and we went down again and got
into the van. We then headed off to their headquarters for a
brief presentation and to meet some of the folks that work there.
Traffic was really terrible and it took us quite a while to get there,
but when we did finally pull up we had a very warm reception. We
toured their office and met some of the staff. We then went to
the conference room for a power point slide presentation that had Laila
quite amazed. Laila was always skeptical about Save the
Children. But then she suspects anything being run in the
Philippines if the government is involved. The slide show showed
all the different things they do and where our sponsorship money goes.
Not all of it goes to Sarah and I think that shocked Laila a bit.
I think Laila was under the impression that they just gave Sarah a
monthly allowance and she spent the money on her own, which is not the
case. They use the money to buy some school supplies in the
beginning of school year, but then they also run programs for the
younger kids to prepare them for school, assist with school, and teach
them how to eat right, and sanitation. Sarah, in fact, serves an
ambassador to all children who are in the same school where she
studies. They received the same program benefits what Sarah
receives. They help children from 4 years old up to 18 years old only.
They also address birth control, and bad habits to older ones.
Anyway after seeing the presentation it was off to McDonalds to meet up
with Sarah and her family. We again got caught in traffic and it
took us quite a while to get there but we finally did.
Sarah. Her Mother, and Sister Sheila
Sarah is 12 years old and I was quite surprised by how small she
was. We met Sarah, her youngest sister, Shiela, and her
mother. Sarah is one of seven children in the household and her
father abandoned the family six months after her youngest child was
born.
ME, Laila, Sarah
Her mother works as a fish vendor but, it is a really low paying job
which is equivalent of 4 -5 dollars a day. Anyway Laila
learned a lot about the program from talking to some of the workers and
the family. Sarah didn't speak English so we just kind of smiled
and used sign language or let Laila translate for me. We then
went to a community center where they were teaching job skills with
materials they have available. I felt really bad as this was an
extremely poor area, but the folks at the center were working hard, and
there were many volunteers there helping them out.
Tomorrow, we will be taking Sarah out on a shopping trip to a
mall. We were thinking of school supplies but after Laila talked
to Sarah, I guess we will be going grocery shopping instead, as Sarah
prefers grocery items and rice for her family. As a rule, we are not
allowed to give any cash donations to Sarah or her family.
Anyway, after that it was time for the long ride home. Laila's
knee gave her so much pain. Somehow, it is really nice to finally
put a real child in place of the picture and letters. We're
excited to take her and family out for shopping tomorrow...
